Álvaro - Who I Am

Hi, I'm Álvaro

Being in the middle is a skill.

I'm a lawyer and consultant in corporate compliance. My work keeps placing me between software teams and clients - and I've learned to interpret both ways.

Who I am

A compliance lawyer who ended up among engineers.

I advise companies on corporate compliance: preventing risk, building programs, acting when things go wrong. Classic legal work, done with care - and I love it.

But project after project, experience kept landing me in the same spot: in the middle, between the teams building applications and the clients who needed them. Nobody plans for that seat. Someone has to take it.

What I do

I interpret what each side means - not just what they say.

Lawyers and developers use the same words for different things. "Risk". "Requirement". "Done". When nobody interprets, projects drift apart without anyone noticing.

My job is to keep both sides pointed at the same goal: to turn what the client needs into something a team can build, and what the team builds into something the client can trust.

Why this site

A place to think out loud.

This site is my excuse to explore ideas at the border of law and technology - and to show some of the work that comes out of it.

Not only mine: I'll also be sharing projects by other people that I find genuinely good. Good work deserves an audience.

Projects

Work worth showing.

This space is reserved for projects born at the border of law and technology - mine, and work by other people that I find genuinely good.

01

ClearTrace - third-party due diligence platform

Screens any company against 200+ registries across 140+ jurisdictions - sanctions (OpenSanctions, World Bank), adverse media, offshore leaks, corporate structure and cybersecurity posture - and turns it into risk scores, an interactive investigation graph and an AI-written executive report with auditable findings. Built at the LegalQuants LQ002 hackathon.

Lawyers who build.

ClearTrace was born at LQ002, the LegalQuants hackathon. LegalQuants is a community of lawyers who write code and ship real tools for the legal world - and where I found people who speak both languages.

"The City" - a living map of how I work with AI

Every idea, decision and lesson from my daily work with Claude becomes a building; related ones form neighbourhoods; the links between them are streets; cranes mark where work is happening right now. A city you can walk through, instead of a folder you have to search.
